Craters Mountain Bike Park is located in the Wairakei Forest just North of Taupo town centre, there is something in this mountain bike park for everyone. Select biking tracks are available check out the Bike Taupo Facebook page for updates. The park features over 50kms of single track trails that range from an easy Grade 2 to a more advanced Grade 4-5. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced there is a track at Craters Mountain Bike Park to suit you. The volcanic pumice soils allow for year round riding with free draining qualities that are hard to come by.
Before you head out to Craters MTB Park you need to join Bike Taupo as a visitor or annual member. Visit www.biketaupo.org.nz or pop into a bike shop in Taupo town to arrange this. You can also purchase trail maps at these locations.
How to get there
Craters MTB Park is located 10 minutes north of Taupo in the Wairakei Forest. When driving north from Taupo turn left onto Karapiti Road. The main car park is 500m up on the left.
Alternatively the park can be accessed by parking on the grass opposite ‘the big helicopter’ and riding back across SHW5 and up Inwards Goods which is to the left of Karopiti Rd.
There is a third access beside SHW5 about 500m back towards Taupo on the western side of the road which enters the forest near the start of Bumble Bee/BBC and SH Fun.
